Here’s a quote from Peter Bartram’s new book How To Build A Successful Career In IT: “Today’s IT leaders are multi-skilled and business focused, equally at home discussing shareholder value as they are in the datacentre.”

Bartram interviewed a number of IT professionals at the top of their game and it might not surprise many to learn that those that succeed have an eye on their company or organisation’s wider strategic vision and understand how IT can deliver on those objectives.

So keeping an eye on IT developments and getting to grips with how they can be used to streamline existing and future projects – both in terms of cost and time – is where career advancement lies.

Perhaps we all knew that but it is interesting to see all of Batram’s case studies set out to show how it was done.
