Why Simple Data Masking?

Under current industry regulations and guidelines, maintaining compliance has become a mandatory operation. Non-compliance not only carries the risk of heavy fines and damage to public reputation, but fails to adequately secure commercially sensitive data. However, whilst masking data for use in non-production is a regulatory standard, provisioning the right sort of test data has business benefits that go beyond compliance. As well as avoiding the risk of heavy penalties; high quality, meaningful test data means better testing, which in turn means fewer time and budget overruns in your project.

Simple Data Masking™, a component of Datamaker™ and Enterprise Data Masking™, is a powerful, generic data masking engine that supports all major database types and data sources. Using industrial-strength data discovery functionality, Simple Data Masking™ ensures regulatory compliance by identifying and uncovering all potentially sensitive data in the database. This can then be masked using an extensive range of powerful built-in and user-defined masking functions, including: randomisation, substitution, hashing, shuffling, date aging and decryption/encryption.

Each masking algorithm is fully automated and applied across all data sources, tables and executions within the project to ensure that referential and business integrity is maintained. This can also be achieved manually using the built-in cross-reference feature. Consequently, any masking rules that you establish are fully repeatable. The result is that consistent, high quality, meaningful test data is provisioned and distributed throughout the project, enabling better and more efficient testing.

Simple Data Masking™ is also incredibly simple-to-use. Mapping files can be defined, created and edited in three different ways: using the Mapper GUI, Transformation Maps, or even an Excel spreadsheet! Simple Data Masking™ does exactly what it says - it makes it simple to quickly provision high quality, meaningful and compliant test data for use in non-production environments.
